About Department:
The Department of History is one of the oldest Department in the College, which was established in 1975, launched its programme of Under-Graduate Studies in the same year under the guidance of Sri Krishna Devaraya University, Anantapur Dist of Andhra Pradesh. They highly motivated and committed students envisaged a department with innovative academic programmes. The Department provides a glimpse into the various aspects of India’s glorious heritage of Art and Cultural History. It’s also provides the Socio-Economic, Political and Regional History of Andhra, India and World.
Vision:
The Department of History has always been striving to achieve excellence in academic activities. The Department efforts will be in the direction of creating more and more scholars and intellectuals to serve the people and the Nation in various ways and in different spheres. Student’s talents should be properly channelised by shaping them properly to become distinguished men in society and by offering them training in academic exercises and by conducting programmes to enable them to appear for the UPSC and the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) Examinations and to get selected in various Government and Non-Governmental services. The department has endeavoured not only to familiarise itself with the advance made in other disciplines but also to induce students to update their knowledge of such advances. It has felt a constant need to redefine the approaches and methods of studying history.The faculty members were apply Minor/Major research projects with financial assistance from UGC, ICHR, ASI, Ministry of Culture/Tourism, ICSSR and other funding agencies.
Mission:
The Department aim was to introduce a rigorous and scientific methodology in Teaching-Learning and Evaluation. The idea was to make the study of history more meaningful keeping in view the changing intellectual and social aspects of India and Andhra Pradesh. Enrich the quality and standard of teaching and learning through modern technology & Science and create good knowledge in the subject as well as research among the students. Research activities in the department would be strengthened.Audio-visual teaching aids and internet would be used limberly for class room instruction.
A more direct need was to create awareness in the student of history of the importance of theory and analytical concepts in reconstructing the past, while at the same time the emphasis was on a thorough understanding of and command over the History subject. The expanding frontiers of history have also made it imperative that the historian's efforts should be directed towards correlating historical method with those of other disciplines. The department has been giving the assessments and revisions or changes introduced in the various programmes in the light of the experience gained and in response to changing historiographical trends. Periodical reviews also meant feed-back from the outgoing under-graduate students, apart from continuing discussions among the student’s.
Aims and Objectives:
The Department of History has noble aims such as fostering Historical knowledge and promoting students not only academic activities such as higher learning and research but also competitive in nature. It has also been attempting to focus on the cultural heritage and traditions of India so as to imbibe in the minds of students into the cultural values of India, through class-room lectures and various academic exercises through different kinds of lectures, Seminars, Symposiums and Conferences. This would prepare the students to become good and potential citizens of this Nation and to play a great role in Regional, National and International arena. One of the objectives of the department has been that teaching should be inter-disciplinary in nature.
The Department of History faculty took interest in motivating to the students and gave counseling to them in Academic, Research, Higher Education and Career opportunities. There are large number of students were joined in the department coming from marginalized sections of the society such as SC, ST, OBC and religious minorities. Majority of the students came from rural areas, hence the departmental faculty takes efforts to encourage and train them in Academic and solve them in their day to day academic problems.
Course Structure:
The course structure is designed as per UGC guide lines by APSCHE (Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education), Government of Andhra Pradesh and Sri Krishna Devaraya University, Anantapuram. The course is implemented by the Commissioner of Collegiate Education (CCE), Andhra Pradesh. The Department of History specialised in the Ancient, Medieval and Modern Indian History, which includes world history, and Andhra History. Specialists in different periods and regions of Indian history and non-Indian history were attracted to the department by virtue of its potential for devising and introducing courses with contents, and methods of teaching. The course is designed to offer an overall understanding of the historical process of Indian Society, Polity, Economy, Culture, Art and Architecture from evolution of man to contemporary history.

Semester System:CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) has been introduced by Govt of Andhra Pradesh in all Govt Degree Colleges from the Academic Year 2015-16 and will be spread to across the state as per the guidelines stipulated by the UGC. This system was implemented by the Universities. The S.K.University, Anantapuram was introduced this system in colleges from 2015-16 Academic Years. As per APSCHE and UGC guidelines, First Four Semesters are compulsory papers, which deal about overall understanding of Indian History up to Independence of India and Fifth Semester each core Subject divided into Two Papers, which are also compulsory papers deals about World and Andhra History. In Sixth Semester, there will be a Three Cluster Electives of each subject; students may select their interest papers of the subject according to their choice. The student may study other three papers from core subjects, which are compulsory papers.
Courses Offered:The Department of History offers courses leading to B.A Degree. Its teaching programme is designed to provide students with a broad overview of Indian History narrowing down to focus on the World History with special emphasis on Socio-Economic, Political and Cultural History of World, India and Andhra.

About the Faculty:The Department has two sanctioned posts and two permanent eminent faculty members on regular basis; whose were highly qualified and directly recruited by Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission, Government of Andhra Pradesh. The Department focuses on not only Indian History but also Andhra and World history as special papers. Faculty members are actively involved in research and teaching. Members of the faculty are renowned as thinkers and contributors to the discipline of History and as specialists in their respective domains of Research. The faculty Members are actively participated in various Regional, State, National and International Seminars/Workshops/Symposiums. They are also Members of Andhra Pradesh History Congress, Telangana History Congress, South Indian History Congress, Indian History Congress and Indian Social Science Congress etc.
Course Fee & Seats:The Department of History course fee decided by Sri Krishna Devaraya University, Anantapuram from time to time. If the seats are filled, and if the demand is more, may be twenty percent of the seats enhance with the permission of S.K University.

Innovative Practices:The Department of History has made several online videos’ for B.A Students, which are always available in Youtube, CCE and College LMS Platform. Whenever they required they may be open the online videos’. The department is also made slide shows of Historical Maps, Photographs with explanation of each topic, analysing new historical trends, delivering lecture with technological devices such as Virtual Lab, JKC etc, visiting historical places for practical experience and to understand the art, architecture and cultural heritage of various dynasties in India and Andhra history.

Departmental Library:The department maintains separate small Library, which consists of Academic and Reference Books. These books are issue to the students for academic purpose and which are also useful for competitive examinations.
Best Practices:To explore the local history/Historical places through conduct the students study projects in every year and alsoProvide students to use more E-Learning resources related to Academic and Research. Historical Tours/Excursions are common in every year.Guest Lectures by eminent personalities in various fields are hosted to broaden students' subject knowledge. In addition to we are conducting Field Trips and Educational Tours to provide hands on experience to students. Colleges have included seminars at class level, State and National level workshops in their academic schedules. Faculty of one stream deliver extension lectures to students of other streams to widen their scope of knowledge. Experts from Industry and alumni are also invited to deliver guest talks to motivate students. Personality development trainers conduct interactive sessions to improve self confidence and positive attitude among students. The department also assigned work to the students to collect important sources and assigned project work to students on local importance. The department faculty is always active in all social and community services and other extracurricular activities, when ever required. The department conducts the students Seminars/Study Projects/Quiz/Cultural activities etc.We also are giving free coaching for M.A (History) entrance and other competitive exams. History toppers will get cash prize.
